In this live session, Hiroki Fujita, Men’s Tennis Assistant Coach at University of Toledo, breaks down how coaches actually assess recruits and build their teams.

We’ll cover what separates recruitable players from good juniors, how results and rankings are viewed in context, what coaches pay attention to in match footage, and where athletes often go wrong in communication and preparation.

Jay Harrison, College Recruiter, Platform Sports Management

Jay Harrison is a former NCAA Division I tennis player for Seattle University and an emerging coach-mentor for aspiring college athletes. Competing in the Western Athletic Conference, he balanced academics with top-level collegiate tennis experiences that shaped his approach to performance, resilience, and team culture.

Hiroki Fujita, Men’s Tennis Assistant Coach at University of Toledo

Hiroki Fujita is an Assistant Men’s Tennis Coach at University of Toledo, joining the Rockets’ staff in August 2025. Prior to Toledo, Hiroki served as a graduate assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s tennis programs at Seattle University.

Originally from Ryugasaki, Japan, he played college tennis at Idaho State University, earning All-Big Sky honours in singles and doubles and competing at a high international junior level before his collegiate career.

Hiroki brings both firsthand playing experience and insight into how coaches evaluate recruits, develop players, and manage a competitive NCAA program. His perspective bridges the player mindset and the coach’s criteria for recruitment and team building.

This free session is designed to educate parents and athletes on how the US college system works for student athletes. We’ll cover scholarship opportunities, academic requirements, the recruitment process, and what life is like as a student-athlete in the US.

Will this help my child get a scholarship?

Yes! We’ll walk you through how scholarships work for track and field, how to improve your child’s chances, and what college coaches are looking for in both athletes and students.

Do we need to have elite times or rankings to be considered?

Not necessarily. We’ll explain the different levels of college competition (Division 1, Division 2, NAIA, JUCO) and how there are opportunities for a wide range of athletes—not just national champions.

Will you explain the academic requirements too?

Yes, absolutely. We’ll cover GPA, SAT/ACT requirements (if needed), and how academics play a role in the recruitment and scholarship process.

Yes! The webinar is tailored for international athletes looking to study and compete in the US. We’ll talk about the visa process, eligibility, and how international recruitment works.
