Your Network = Your Net Worth:

The Network You Build in College Sport Can Define Your Career

Most families look at a U.S. college scholarship and see a way to keep competing and reduce university costs. That's a fair starting point. But there's a layer to this that doesn't get talked about enough. The coaches, teammates, alumni, employers, and mentors an athlete connects with during their college career can shape what happens professionally long after the final game is played.

This session is built around that idea. Three Platform team members who have lived the U.S. college experience will share what those networks actually look like, how they form, and what athletes can do to make the most of them.

Why This Matters

A U.S. college scholarship is often framed as a sporting or financial decision. It's both of those things. But it's also an entry point into one of the most powerful networks an athlete will ever have access to — coaches with industry connections, alumni working across sport, business, and media, and teammates who will go on to careers across the world. For international athletes in particular, that network carries significant long-term value. This session unpacks what it looks like in practice and how to build it intentionally.

What This Session Covers

This session provides a clear walkthrough of the pathway:

  • How sport, academic, and life networks form during a U.S. college career
  • The long-term career and business value of an international alumni network
  • What coaches, teammates, and university connections can open up professionally
  • Real examples from athletes who have benefited from their college networks
  • What international student-athletes can do now to position themselves for these opportunities
  • Live Q&A with Jay, Bianca, and Miguel
